Featured Author - Peter Temple
Acclaimed Australian crime writer Peter Temple is the winner of five Ned Kelly awards as well as the Duncan Lawrie Dagger (for his 2007 novel The Broken Shore). The South African born Temple has written a number of novels, including his very popular Jack Irish series. With the publication of The Broken Shore he moved into even darker territory, examining themes of racism and sexual abuse in a small coastal town. His new novel Truth is a sequel to The Broken Shore but focuses on the character of Inspector Steven Villani. The writing has a stark economy and the narrative is propelled forward with a grim intensity, only relieved by Temple's pitch-black laconic humour. Set in a Melbourne haunted by corruption and violence against the background of a bushfire summer, Truth is compelling from the very first page.
